Modem Conflicts

I have a small form factor shuttle box with redhat 9 and planet ccrma installed. There is only 1 pci slot in which I have a us Robotics modem installed. Redhat assigns irq10 to it which is also shared by usb controllers and others. The problem is that the modem will die after about 5 minutes sitting idle. In turn I can only sync my usb Handspring once in awhile, so there is definitely some conflict. How do I go about assigning a different irq to this plug and play pci modem, or is it possible? Thanks all,
Ken

The modem can't be on com10 unless it's a hardware modem. And if it's a software modem it should be on Com5(software emulation), which is /dev/ttyS04.

You can choose the tty on your modem dialer. Like kdialer or something similar. Just tell it to use com5/ttyS04. This should work assuming the proper linmodem(winmodem) drivers are installed. Unless you see jumpers or switches on your modem, it's a winmodem. If it's a hardware modem, the default is usually com2/irq3 aka /dev/ttyS01. Good luck butternut.

Its on ttyS4, but interrupt 10. I'm trying to change the interrupt because I think its conflicting with other hardware.
