modem configured but not dialing
I'm new to linux and just installed suse 9.2 with the KDE desktop on my dell inspiron 1100.
Modem configured easily enough, however, I still can't connect to the internet. My ISP account settings are correctly configured. The kinternet icon shows in the bottom right cluster of icons. When I rightclick on it the menu gives options for settings and also to dial. However, when I choose "dial" nothing happens. If I go to the suse start button and pick internet>dial up then a pop up tells me kinternet is already running, look at the icon in the bottom right. So, how do I get this thing to dial??? U are using Suse Linux 9.2..... and probably it might have just detected your modem and understood that you have (an internal) or external modem. However, the driver for your modem might have not been installed. I had the same case with me. I installed the driver and things worked fine. I have the driver saved in my briefcase...just tell me your configuration (Hardware details and whether you have dual booting and other stuff....) through email or this thread and I will email you the driver which might probably work ( Well, not sure of that) however, you need to have your kernel source installed in your computer (also tell me the kernel 2.4.x.x or 2.6.x.x etc...)

By the message, it seems you have an internal modem on the PCI slot of Intel make. (I am not sure of this, just let me know if I am right :-?).
Well, scanModem should have worked fine but it doesnt' seem to be... by the results...However, I feel U check http://www.intel.com for more information regarding your internal modem. Or you may download the latest scanModem from here http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/scanModem.gz and try running it once again... but before this...just spend 10 minutes reading this page.... http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/first.html and then proceed doing anything.... |

The scanModem I ran was from 3 March 05, which I downloaded from that same site yesterday. And I already read the linmodems page in detail. That was how I could run scanModem. I checked the suse site and found another script to run, which gave some info.txt file regarding my modem. In this file you'll see information also about a usb cable modem (a fixed cellar terminal). I'm not as interested in that one, as I see no hope for it at all. (Maybe someone else would, though?) What I really want to make work is my internal modem. Any help?
