Modem communication Problems

I just installed Mandrake 9.2 Download Edition on a IBM Thinkpad i1400 and I am having some problem configuring the linmodem. I installed the drivers for the modem and the kernel and it created a working device.
When I try to connect with Kppp, the modem dials, authenticates and connects to the server, but it doesn't communicate. If i try to access a website with Konqueror, it says it can't find it.
I thought it was a DNS server problem (that is what it looks like), but i can't even access a website with the IP address.

I am thinking of buying a full version of Mandrake.. but I want to figure this out fiirst.

Thanks for the help

You can double check whether or not it is a DNS problem by looking at /etc/resolve.conf. You should have something like this in /etc/resolve.conf:

search auth1.dns.star.net
nameserver 207.167.3.81

Where the search field is the name of your DNS in letters and the nameserver field is the name of your DNS in numbers.
