modem (AT?) commands for Innocom MI220 (Intel 537EP chipset winmodem)

I use an Intel 537EP winmodem (Innocom MI220) with the Intel driver to connect to the Internet via the penggy aol dialer. The penggy default modem init strings appear to be ATZ and then ATDT. I want to turn the modem speaker off, which apparently is usually done with the M0 command. I've tried various combinations such as ATM0Z (which I suppose doesn't make much sense if ATZ returns the modem to factory defaults) and ATM0DT to no avail. What is the right way do do this? (I saw somewhere that many AT commands don't work on Hayes compatible winmodems).

The command to turn the speaker off is:
ATM0

Ln - "Set Speaker Volume" - This command controls the speaker volume of the modem.

L0 - Mute

L1 - Low volume

L2 - Medium volume

L3 - High volume

Mn - "Set Speaker Mode"

M0 - Disable speaker

M1 - Enable speaker until a carrier signal is detected

M2 - Enable speaker

M3 - Enable speaker after dialing but disable after a carrier signal is detected

Thank you. I think I tried that, but I'll try again next time I'm at my computer.

It is indeed 'ATM0' that I needed; I thought I'd tried it but I must not have, at least not correctly. Thanks!
