Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Modem and Videocard not seen in freespire

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
I installed freespire yesterday. The install sees everything except my dial-up modem and videocard.

US Robotics V.90 Faxmodem
XFX Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT 512MB

The resolution is capable of 1680x1050 in xp pro, in fs I got 1024x768.

Can someone point me in the right direction to get these working ?

Thanks.

#su
#modprobe nv

or use the proprietary nvidia driver

post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Find the name of the driver module for that modem and do

#modprobe <name_modem>

(or install *buntu-8.10 for full automation )

You will need to manually setup/install the drivers for your video card..

Your modem is probably a winmodem since that's about all they make these days..
