Question mobile amd athlon driver & support ?

Can anyone please help me with this? I think about installing linux on my Compaq EvoN1015v laptop. I would like to know if there is a driver for mobile AMD processors .. or if there is a distribution that supports them.. Really wouldn't like my fan working all the time..

The fan should be controlled with the acpi (Advanced Configuration and Power Support) which can be supported with any linux distribution. I also believe if you use upgrade to a 2.6 kernel you will get processor speed stepping support.

Just to clarify.... the CPU Frequency scaling support in 2.6 works for AMD Powernow! on Mobile K6-2/K6-3, Athlon/Duron, and Opteron/Athlon64. So you should be covered as far as that goes.

You would also need to have Fan/Processor support in your 2.6 kernel which is under ACPI and you would need a user space program that monitors temps and adjusts the fan speed accordingly, I think there are a bunch of programs out there that will do that for you.
