Mistake Compiling 2.6.0
 

I made a mistake compiling the 2.6.0 kernel, when I was configuring the sound, I built sound support for the card I have, but I accidently built support for another card, and it is showing in the hardware configuration and now I can't seem to get sound. Is there a way I can fix this without recompiling the kernel? I'm using mandrake 9.2. Thanks.

Hmmm, you mean, in ALSA you compiled built-in (not modules, but compiled within the kernel) support for some cards that you don't have now you can't get sound? Look, I don't know if this really is the problem. Have you tried to use alsaconf? could give us some logs (as the output from dmesg) to check if this really is your problem?

Okay, I was able to get sound. The second card I "accidently" compiled support for is a onboard audio piece. However I still have a problem. I only get sound from 2 out of 5 speakers, and no subwoofer. Kmix doesn't show the normal set of tools. When I attempted to run alsaconf, all I get is "modinfo: could not find module snd". I think that the computer is using the onboard audio, rather than my soundblaster audigy. How can I fix this?
The module for the audigy is load (snd-emu10k1) but the module for the other device is loaded as well, and rmmod says it can't remove because emu10k1 uses, and force failed.

Any ideas?

Why don't you look at this guy's Audigy 2 Linux setup guide and see if that will help you.

Thanks for he reply, but still no luck. I'm able to get sound from two of the speakers, just not the full functionality. I have the snd-emu10k1 sound module loaded, as well everything else I think it needs.This ac97 codec module, which I though was for the other card is actually need by emu10k1. Any ideas of what I can do? Thanks.

Sorry, but I've not been able to help anyone get their sound working in Mandrake. What I do in Slackware and did in Debian just doesn't seem to work in Mandrake. I use the drivers and instructions from ALSA.

Try Google and also reading the LQ Mandrake forum. I searched here with the one word sound and the Mandrake forum returned those 27 results.

I'm going to try to recompile the driver, but I now have another problem. I can't compile them because it says that I need to install my kernel-source, meanwhile my kernel source is installed and the /usr/src/linux symlink is in place. What am I going to do now?

Read this thread and see if your kernel source problem is the same as his ->
