Could you provide the dmesg report before you reinstall, in case reinstalling may not be necessary?

If you were using Ubuntu, you could access a terminal by using:

Ctrl + Alt + T

It is a useful keyboard shortcut to have available in your next version of Mint.

Mint Menu > Keyboard Shortcuts > Scroll down to "Run a Terminal" and on the right click on "Disabled".

Create the shortcut you require: Ctrl + Alt + T (or whatever).

Personally I would not waste any more time with your current Cinnamon.

You can have the MATE version downloaded and installed in a short space of time.

Downloaded MATE last night, wrote it to my usb, loaded it this morning and everything is working now that wasn't before....currently installing
