Minicom won't connect to Cisco 2600

For some bizarre reason, I cant get minicom (or cu for that matter) to connect to my 2600 Cisco through the serial port.

I've got an adapter to DB9 then an official Cisco rollover cable going into the Cisco. I wasn't sure what the serial port was named so i did:

dmesg | grep tty

and got:

ttys00 at 0x03f8 (irq=4) is a 16550A.

So I do a 'minicom -s' and set the serial port setup for /dev/ttys00 9600 8N1 and save that as cisco.

I then did a 'minicom cisco'. Minicom boots fine, says it's initializing modem then goes to the welcome to minicom screen. However, it says it's 'offline' and typing anything makes no difference.

I've tried other combinations of ttys and Stty, but none will connect.

The machine has Win2k on a dual boot. Using teraterm under windows gets the router prompt, no problem. So why can't I get it to work??

I've done a bit of googling and noticed that this problem has been encountered by quite a few people but no-one has resolved it properly.

BTW, I'm running Slack 9 with kernel 2.4.20 and I'm very annoyed!

Had some similar problem. Setting Hardware Flow Control to "No" in Minicom helped. I've also set Software flow control to "No".

I am having this same problem, but on Fedora Core 3. I read on another forum that the BIOS may not automatically enable the serial port and that the OS must do that. Win2k apparently does but Linux may not....

I tried enabling the Serial port in the BIOS but still no luck for me, however others have had success with that method.

I'm still looking for a solution too!

I'm still having the same problem as everyone above. Farslayer's link was good but didn't solve the problem. I'm unsure what it could be.
