Microtek scanner concerns

I have a Microtek ScanMaker X12 USL it supports usb as well as scsi interfeace. I was just at the Sane website and the scanner is suported, but only in flatbed scsi mode. The color supported is only in 8-bit. Will I see a difference in how the colors are displayed compared to higher bits if they where supported?

Yes, 8-bit is rather poor color. You probably want to go for 16-bit or higher. in 8-bit your pictures will look grainy, but when you step up too 16-bit, everything looks sharp. I guess it really depends on what you are doing. For example, many ocr programs you are only supposed to scan it 8-bit color.
