Microphone problem C-Media 8738
 

Hello

I'm totally new in the linux world and just installed Mandrake 10.0. Everything works fine apart from the microphone. The sound output seems to work, but I'm unable to use skype because of this problem.
My soundcard is an onboard C-Media 8738. What can I do to solve this problem? (PnP is off in my bios)

I am also using Mandrake 10.0, using Skype, and cccan't get the mic to work, I don't know if this is the answer but you may want to try checking out your settings in kmix, let me know if you figgure it out or if this helps ok?

Diesel2k: I had the same problem (using C-media 9739A though). The problem was solved when I started alsamixer and enabled "mic boost" (with "M") and disabled a few things that had with surround to do. (don't remember exactly what I did)

I fixed it also:
OPen KMix and select Mic as Center/LFE
When I selected that one and the light turned dark green I had the mic working

Yeah - I managed to fix it too. Thanks for the suggestions.

Looking through my motherboard manual, it appears that the C-Media is a 6 channel audio device, but they re-use the connectors on the motherboard for different purposes. I.e. the microphone socket is also the sub-woofer or center speaker output, depending on how you have it configured.

Therefore disabling "Mic as center" turns this feature off and allows you to use it as a mic socket again. It appears to be enabled as center speaker out by default (I am using Mandrake 10.0)
