Microphone not working
 

Distro: Ubuntu 8.04.1

Chip audio: SiS SI7012

Using alsamixer.
Microphone works under win so it's not a matter of bad HW.

Launching alsamixer from command line i see that in [capture] tab Mic has no volume and it's not possible to turn it on, the only thing that has volume control is IEC958P.

The IEC thing is Digital Out (SPDIF). Does the Mic tab have 'MM' at the bottom (mute)? You can unmute with 'M'. Also, have a look at the comments on that specific sound hardware on the alsa web site. Sometimes there are comments like "not yet fully implemented" and "this bit only works under these conditions".

Microphone is not muted (MM) is simply grey, unusable.
No info on alsa website.

I'm starting to cry.....
