Microphone doesn't work
I have an hp desktop with a creative labs sound card. Linux is the only system on the computer. Sounds play just fine, but I have never had the microphone work, ever. I tried with both the on-board nvidia sound driver and now with the creative labs one. Help, please.

It would help if we knew which distro and desktop you are using. In most cases the problem is in the mixer settings.

Microphone doesn't work
My computer is and HP Pavillion with a 32 bit amd chip (athalon). 256 megs of ram
My distro is Fedora 6 with the latest updates from the net. don't know what else to send. I am a newbie at Linux. Thanks folks, Carl |
Most problems come from the mixer controls not set right. On the "Input Tab" make sure your microphone volume is max and the switch is on. If you can hear sound from your speakers from the microphone then you need to play with the capture control switch and volume control.

Also make sure the microphone is plugged into the "mic in", and not the "line in" on the sound card.
If there's no choice, then make sure on the mixer that the input is set to "mic in" and not "line in". |
