Micro Advantage 1GB QuickDrive USB Stick

I've been charged with retrieving data from this device. My tech cohorts have been unsuccessful. When I connect it to a Windows box, it tells be there's a problem with the device. there are no downloadable drivers available online for it, except for Win98.

My Fedora 6 generally connects usb sticks starting with sda. This stick does not appear to be recognized at all. It is not listed in the LQ HCL. Has anyone had any experience getting it to work in Linux?

It might be a moot point, as I'm afraid it's fried.

All USB mass storage devices are picked up the same way by the kernel, there is really no need to have them in the HCL; if it doesn't work with the kernel, than that device would not be adhering to the mass storage standard. Not including any special features that some flash drives have, such as drive encryption or that sort of thing (those required Windows software to function).

If your system is not even assigning it a dev node, then I would suspect it is probably done for.

I have a 2GB 150x SD Memory card that died on me.. the PC can see it (when I check /var/log/messages/) it sees the Card and assigns it a dev node, but it gets an error and the system can not mount it.. fdisk /dev/sdb failed as well I don't recall the error.

It looks like your USB drive is suffering a similar problem to my SD card and I doubt either of us will be successful in doing anything with them at this point. I've already contacted the manufacturer of my SD Card and requested a RMA so I can get a replacement.

I just wonder what pictures were on the memory card when it died, and did I already offload them to the PC or not ?

Bummer. That's what I'm afraid of. I appreciate the feedback, guys.

Thanks.
