Mic not working

Hi

I was trying to use teamspeak and realised my mic wasn't working also I couldn't hear anything.

I know my sound card works because I can listen to music but I really want my mic to work (I tested it on another program and it doesn't work)

I have the VIA 800 chipset does any one know how I can get my mic to work?

Use alsamixer to adjust the settings. Some sound modules uses external amplifier to activate audio input devices. Also others need additional settings to set such as ADC to 100%. While other sound cards needs an awkward setting for AC97 mixer setting. The information that you gave does not give me or others any idea to make good suggestions.

I suggest using audacity to help yo set up audio recording.

I suggest you also try the arecord command line tool
to try your mic. This is "very basic", but good for such a test.
Have you got kmix or aumix
to try to tweak the sound card settings?

Do not use aumix, kmix or any GUI programs. Use alsamixer. Leave out GUI programs until you have properly set up in CLI programs. Though I assume you are using ALSA.

Not all systems are setup properly for arecord to work. Audacity is a good program to have around and a good program to test the recordings of a sound card.
