mic issues with Ubuntu 7.10

Hi!

I own a Acer 3620 laptop and have just installed Ubuntu 7.10. My problem is that the built-in mic doesn't function properly in Ubuntu 7.10. The sound is either very soft or cannot be heard at all. Hoping someone have tried the fix for this. Thanks.

This may sound obvious, but have you checked the volume settings?

Which sound system are you using?
(ALSA/OSS/aRTs etc...)

Try running 'alsamixer' in a terminal, and checking the volume settings.

(use tab to switch between 'playback', 'capture' and 'all', then use the left and right arrows to select the channel for the mic and the up and down arrows to change the volume)

If this doesn't fix it, let me know.
