memory/cpu usage concern

i have noticed that as my machine runs for a long time all the memory is used up. i am watching xosview. i read that this is fine and the reason makes sense.

question, -- my swap starts to be used up after a while, so isnt that less efficient to use a lot of memory as cache and use swap?

here is my meminfo

total: used: free: shared: buffers: cached:
Mem: 526118912 519524352 6594560 0 114376704 292921344
Swap: 1069244416 104521728 964722688
MemTotal: 513788 kB
MemFree: 6440 kB
MemShared: 0 kB
Buffers: 111696 kB
Cached: 238612 kB
SwapCached: 47444 kB
Active: 302760 kB
ActiveAnon: 96332 kB
ActiveCache: 206428 kB
Inact_dirty: 60228 kB
Inact_laundry: 72576 kB
Inact_clean: 10856 kB
Inact_target: 89284 kB
HighTotal: 0 kB
HighFree: 0 kB
LowTotal: 513788 kB
LowFree: 6440 kB
SwapTotal: 1044184 kB
SwapFree: 942112 kB

also when i start to rip cd;s all my cpu is used up, which is fine. but is there a way to lower the priority of the ripper so that my other apps such as mozilla can run smooth??

doing anything whilst burning is asking for trouble, but to lower it's priority would likely coaster everything.

that just makes me blind I guess

priorities I think changed by altering something's "nice" level.
