Talking Maybe the devil is teasing me: simply cannot make multisession CD's!!

Yo!

I am convinced that the devil is teasing me…so hard times I have had with writing cd’s. I live in an it hell right now. I have asked help earlier, but it looks like even Schilling cannot help me…yes, I even wrote him couple of times and he replied to me sometimes. But suddenly he gave up with me, maybe he felt that I was arrogant towards him…but this in not true. Maybe he simply couldn’t help me. Everything is possible. Maybe he didn’t have time – he gets hundreds of emails. He was suspecting some Redhat problem in his last letter…that whether it is possible that my OS does not support multisession. But we all know that Redhat does.

I making something seriously wrong with Linux. It seems that there is very little left to do now.
It can be:

1. Some problem while installing
2. Some wrong BIOS setting
3. Some problem with my kernel – should it be recompiled… or what..I don’t know.
4. Code 18
5. USER,n
6. And finally…I don’t want to be arrogant, only newbie… I am sorry… I do respect Schilling’s work… I do respect the free open source community…this is free stuff, I should’t complain too much…but perhaps…maybe…I really don’t know…there is a bug in Redhat Linux 9.0. But I really do not have a proposal how fix it. J

Soon I will give up with Linux. Maybe I am too stupid to use it. Next week, on Friday, I will give up, and then its over with Linux. It was not my system. J I don’t want to be negative, but I have been struggling with this issue for weeks, without any results.

So…what’s up, then?

I had a Hewlett Packard 9100i cd-writer and I still have it. It’s yours, if you can help me with my writer, I will mail it to you wherever you live, except to Moon or Mars. But, yes, if I just had the money I could send my HP to Mars also if you want!!! Just a secretary’s phone call to NASA and that’s it. There was nothing wrong with my HP, I should have guessed this because it’s on the Redhat support list. But I became desparate and bought a new Plextor Plexwriter, but it has the same problem, which is:

MULTISESSION DOES NOT WORK WHILE BURNING CD’S.

Bying a new writer was total waste of money. J

Yes, very strange. If I burn a cd, it does the first files, but if I want to continue the disk, it can not make it. It tries to burn, but nothing happens. The frontend says, that file is burning, but there are no files after that – except the first files. I have also tested command promts, like:

mkisofs -L -l -J -R -A Disc-ID -P Publisher-ID -p Preparer-ID -V Volume-ID –o send_it_to_mars.iso /home/tommi/ | cdrecord -v -pad -data -multi fs=8m speed=8 dev=0,0,0 driveropts=burnproof send_it_to_mars.iso

It gives a result like this, which seems to be quite similar with both writers:

Being root makes no difference!

But even Schilling could not find any problem with my flags…but maybe he was in a hurry. After all he is only a human. J

My system:

1. Redhat 9.0 with very latest kernel – no other upgrades, except kernel
2. Pentium 4
3. 1 GT RAM.
4. Intel 845 E chipset, MSI motherboard, very latest BIOS in it.
5. Tested writer’s
- Hewlett Packard 9100i
- Plextor Plexwriter, brand new, I don’t remember the model right now, you will get it if it is really important.

Otherwise my system works quite decently. I think there are no other serious problems with my installation. Maybe stability not quite as good as it should be, but it does the job.

Please help me…please…I am begging from God to send me the right advicer.

-Tommi

Sorry, it was code 18. No bugs in Linux. I wish I was more clever sometimes...:-)

Sorry but the offer is over. I will give my old drive to our university.
