Question Maxtor OneTouch USB external drive button support

I just purchassed a Maxtor OneTouch 120Gb disk. Under Windows a small utility is provided to associate an application with the button on the device. When the button is pressed the application is started.

Has anyone ever found a way to do this under Linux? I would like to hook my backup software with that button.

Note: I have seen many threads about using the disk and after I reformatted it to ext3 I got it to mount very easily. So I can use it fine, I just want to use the button now.

Note 2: Using Suse 9.2

Thanks, Nic

Unhappy

I had found that but it's a diff output between his original code and his newly developped patch. I could not find the original files on which this is based. Anybody else?

Yup _ I know it's an old thread, but I thought it would be worth mentioning that it looks like Nick Sillik's patch (as per the previous post referring to the lwn.net thread) is now part of the 2.6.14.3 kernel as an Experimental driver.

See drivers/usb/storage/onetouch.c and .h for more details.

Build your own fresh kernel or tug on the robes of your favourite distribution vendor.
