Maxtor OneTouch

Has anyone ever had difficulty with a Maxtor OneTouch external USB drive suddenly losing its format?

Astonishingly, from one day to the next I cd to the mount point, first day got the contents of the drive, second day, mount point dir was empty and, yes, the volume was mounted.

Then, using hwbrowser, I noticed the graphic showing the partitions on the maxtor device was green; the default color for an unformatted drive or an unrecognized format.

Any ideas out there?

Dave

Had one die on me. Long time ago tho. Had a Quantum HD I think.

What filesystems have the partitions got?

Mine was, doesn't mean yours is totally dead. If it still shows the partition table then maybe you could make a bit by bit copy of the partitions and try to salvage stuff. What are the partitions formatted as?
