Angry Maxtor 80 GB Drives crashing (ERR 664R03) under RH7.3

Hi All,

Just wanted to see what kind of response this would generate. 2 Maxtor 80 GB drives have crashed reporting error code 664R03 in the past week. I am running RH7.3 ext3 FS. Not doing much I/O yet...mostly just file editting and RH customization/optimization stuff. Same error code on both drives...anyone else experiencing this?

Regards,
needamiracle

Hmmmm... I have a single Maxtor 80GB hard drive under RedHat 7.2 (heh, with all the package upgrading I've been doing lately, it's more like 7.3) working fine so far. I use it as a SAMBA server mostly, transferring pretty big media files to and from it (700+ MB).

WHat exactly gives you this error code? The Maxtor diagnostics software or the Linux kernel? This error code doesn't look like your typical Linux kernel panic message...

Maxtor ERROR CODE (664R03)

I should have mentioned that...it is a Maxtor error code from the powermax diagnostics disk. I started getting I/O errors from within KDE3.0, I was running opera... I tried a <CTRL><ALT><F1> to toggle to a different terminal, and that is when I received screens of I/O errors...trying to write INODE blah blah blah. That's when I halted the machine and rebooted with the powermax disk.

Did the factory recertification test and got the error.
