Ok so here's the deal. I have a couple of HP Vectra computers that I am setting up for the kids.
1.) Vectra VL PII 400 96 megs Matrox G100
2.) Vectra VE PIII 500 128 megs Matrox G200
I'm going to dual boot with 98se on them so I can get them to migrate to Linux. I will probably use Mandrake 10 or Xandros on them (since I will have both available shortly).
Now the question. When I run Knoppix 3.3 on either of them it sees the card and seems to have no issues but as soon as X starts the monitor goes to standby. On the VL it never comes back, and on the VE it comes back for a second if I push reset. Now it is a crappy old monitor that I only use for testing but I haven't had this problem before. Is there an issue with linux and Matrox that I am unaware of? or is it this crappy monitor.
Is it likely that Mandrake will have the same issue and need some manual configuration? It's not that I have a problem with that but I would like to have some idea before I get into it if at all possible.
OK I guess I'll just wait and see what I need to do when I start the install. Thanks for the info, and if anyone else has any ideas please let me know.
Well I just tried an install of Mandrake 10 and the issue didn't come up. I am actually on that machine now. Still not sure why it's a problem with Knoppix exactly but I'm working on it.
