Hi... I guess mga and XFree86 questions are pretty common aroun here, i
googled my problem before asking this and there were thereads concerning
similar problems, but none seemd to suit my curiosity :)
Ok...Here it is.
General context : slack 9.0 on a duron@800
matrox millenium II 4Mb
Now... X works fine... In 24 bpp/1024
I actually hang around linux more and more these days because with this
video card my tv tuner only works in windows...Overlay problems due to not
enough video memory.
And I wanted to take advantage of all the support i heard existed for matrox
cards both in mplayer and for X generally.
So, I added the "load mga" line to my XF86Config file.
I had to switch to 16bpp/800x600, as a message from mga said that i hadn't
enough video memory (boy, they like to stick it in my face :))
Tried running X again. This time it said, again a MGA message line :
(EE) Failed to load module "mga" (once-only module, -1073743368)
MGA(0): [drm] Direct rendering only supported with G200/G400/G550 AGP
I commented the "load dri" line in XF86Config and it still came up with this
message.
What is the problem? Can't it NOT care about dri as long as i don't load
it...Or, better, please give me an advice as to how to benefit as much as i
can from this video card, in X generally or in other applications that run
better on xv which i understand has something to do with this mga module.
Hmm... Should this have benn in the newbie section? :)
Ok, thanks a lot in advance...
