Master sound control in kmix not working..fedora core 4
 

HI there.....i have problems with sound in fc4 ....though not as bad. I get sound but the problem is that the "master" sound control in kmix is not responding and the headphone and pcm controls are responding in kmix...so i cant change volume from the tray icon. Please help......I have VIA motherboard with onboard sound card. The sound controls worked fine in FC3. Also there was a control called "VIA DXS" in FC3 in kmix which seems to have disappeared. Please help me.....

running FC3 my self with a VIA chip also, try using aumix at the command line instead.
aumix
-adjust your levels press S to save settings, then Q to quit.
next time sound mixer settings are changed type aumix -L at command line and reset to saved mixer settings. Hope this helps :)

I tried that. Even in aumix the sound level does not change when i change the master volume. Same happens in alsamixer in gnome too. I use KDE normally though. Please tell me .......is it a driver issue as all mixers are having the same problem. I updated the alsa-driver rpm recently...still no use
