Mandrake & USB problem

Hi!

I´m sure this topic has been discussed before but think my problem is rare... I have 2 USB disks that i need to mount in my mandrake 10.0 with kernel 2.6.3. I´ve tried mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb but the response is: sda1 is not a block device... I´ve also tried:

modprobe usbcore
modprobe usb-storage
modprobe uhci (and ehci and more)

Mandrake can see the disks, but as unknown...

Thanks in advance!

Same thing here. MDK 10.0 with the 2.6.x kernel. I have a Sony DSC-T1 camera. usbview (and of course in /proc/bus/usb) recognice the device but no driver is loaded. /dev/sda1 is not even present.
I think there's something not quite right with the kernel to be honest. I will try to install the 2.4 kernel tonight to see if it sorts itself out.

create a new block unit?

Thanks for the reply!

Does anyone out there know if there is a way to create a new block unit? If you do how? I dont have any /sd* but I do have all the others I can think of, like hda1-4 and so on...

The 2.4.x kernel made no difference unfortunatley. All USB modules modprobes without any problem and the correct /proc/bus/usb is created when it is inserted but then nothing.

I had problems with my USB devices in 10.0 as well. I downloaded and built the latest kernel, 2.6.8.1, and had no problems with my USB devices. Not knowing when to leave well enough alone, I subsequently broke Linux and had to reinstall again, so I'm back to regular 10.0 again, and non-functioning USB.

I just installed Mandrake 10.1 and all my USB problems are solved! Just plug it in and the USB storage will be detected and mounted automatic.
