mandrake and trio 3D Video card?


Hello,
I am a newby and maybe I should have posted this in the neweby room but wanted to see if anyone in the hardware forum has seen this before.


So I try typing Startx and this is what I get.

[root@localhost root]# startx
Using authority file /root/.Xauthority

I get this when I first boot up in mandrake. I choose linux like its going to start with Gnome and then it ask for my login in the text mode?
I searched the forum and found this...which, means not a whole lot to me...I am a newby still so please speak in terms I can understan


Support (accelerated) for the S3 911, 924, 801, 805, 928, 864, 868, 964, 968, Trio32, Trio64, Trio64V+, Trio64UV+, Aurora64V+, Trio64V2, and PLATO/PX is provided by the XF86_S3 server and the XF86_SVGA server with the s3_svga driver. Support (accelerated) for the ViRGE, ViRGE/VX, ViRGE/DX, ViRGE/GX, ViRGE/GX2, ViRGE/MX, ViRGE/MX+ is provided by the XF86_S3V server. Support (accelerated) for the ViRGE chipsets, as well as the Trio3D and Trio3D/2X, is provided by the XF86_SVGA server with the s3v driver. Support (accelerated) for the Savage3D, Savage3D/MV, Savage4, and Savage2000, is provided by the XF86_SVGA server with the s3_savage driver on some OSes (Linux, *BSD).

Please tell me how I can fix this so I can learn mandrake. I want to install samba etc and would like to get the gui going first.

ikenbonnie; am newbie too however after reading u r post there are clues
xf86 and bsd, from what i,ve read they maybe unix apps and components.
ok ok seasoned usr,s & guru,s correct me its ok by me we are learning & thats part of learning curve. back to ikenbonnie believe there is site within
linux of xf86 genre. can,t recall exactly where. check everywhere for it. and of course BSD has site also with forums, got that one thru BIG BLUE(IBM).
