Mandrake 9.2 NTFS drives are read only

I have Mandrake 9.2 installed on a system with 3 HDDs. One is a 30 GB Maxtor, a 15 GB Quantum, and a 160 GB Maxtor. Linux is running on the 15 and I can access the other NTFS drives, but I can only read them and not write. I've checked the permissions and everything is in order, but I can't even write to them as root. Is there any way to make these drives writable?

Linux does not have reliable write support for NTFS yet, if you compile your own kernel, you can enable it, but be sure to read the description for it. If you want to share files between Windows and Linux, the easiest way is to create a FAT partition, as both can read and write to it.

I must agree. NTFS write is getting better as it is being developed, but I would advise not using it at all till development has become stable enough....
