Angry Mandrake 9.1 sound probs

I have an Asus a7v8x-x (KT 400 chipset) mobo. The southbridge chipset is VT 8235. The sound is AC'97 6 channel. I tried the drivers from VIAarena.com and i had no success.

Has anyone w/ this chipset or mobo got sound to work in ANY Linux distro? Thanks for any help.

Actually yahhh...

Works fine on mandrake 9.1 - Even on 3 installs. Even have the exact same motherboard too... Should be automatic really... Alsa's included driver should pick it up.... What does it say on bootup?
