Mandrake 9.0 and internet connection sharing

Hello all,
I have an inability to "leave stuff alone", says my wife. I have two machines at my desk at home. A window$ machine 98se&win2k. My second machine has Mandrake 9.0. I have a cable internet connection that i was able to get working on the mandrake machine but now I want to share that connection. I added a NIC card. I used the wizard in the control panel to setup connection sharing. It said it was done. I can see my Internet providers info in the wizard but can't connect to the internet from either machine.
I don't know what I might have done wrong or didn't do at all. I didn't do anything as far as installing the new network card, it was displayed as eth1.

Connection: Cable modem to Mandrake machine eth0
eth1 to windo$ machine

do I need a certain kind of cable?
Have I missed something?

If someone can treat me like a dummy and tell me what to do from the beginning and get me going I'd be happy!

Thanks
