Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

mandrake 8.1 and qic 80 tape drive

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get Mandrake 8.1 to recognize a QIC 80 IDE tape drive? It was in the machine when I installed Mandrake, but it was not recognized or configured. It's some Conner 250 tape drive.

I assume it is some mount thing, possibly ftape, or something, although it is not on the floppy port, and there is also no scsi in the machine.

Maybe it's just too old of a drive to even consider activating.

thanks

qic 80 support

I have a qic 80 tape on the floppy card. It uses ftape. For an IDE qic 80 drive you will probably have to do a kernel compile and include IDE tape support in the kernel. I have never done this but when I compiled my first kernel I had to figure out the difference between IDE tape support and floppy tape support.

Ok, thanks for the input.

Kernel compile - down on my 'to do' list somewhere.
