Hi,
Just recently I convinced my father to switch from Windows to Linux, and after a first trial with Knoppix, I decided to go for Mandrake 10.
To use a spare Yamaha CRW2100IX CD-R/RW drive with the Siemens-Nixdorf Scenic Mobile 510 AGP I installed a Firewire/IEEE1394 PCMCIA adapter (VIA Technologies), which was recognized instantaneously by Mandrake, and all the required modules and drives have been loaded.
Only when connecting the Yamaha drive I find something like
ieee1394: Node changed: 0-01:1023 -> 0-00:1023
ieee1394: ConfigROM quadlet transaction error for node 0-01:1023
ieee1394: The root node is not cycle master capable; selecting a new root node and resetting....
in the /var/log/messages, and when trying /proc/bus there can't be found a ieee1394 entry; unfortunately the Yamaha drive can't be found or used!
When connecting a Freecom FX-50 DVD-/+RW everything works just fine!
Funny, the Yamaha drive appears on the compatibility list at Linux1394, but the Freecom doesn't! :?
Thanks,
Martin
