malloc assertion botched ???

Ok here's the situation... I go to install Grip.

My system is an LFS running kernel 2.4.21-rc2 with 1024 MB of DDR400 memory.

I've ran configure on grip three different times... each time it craps out at a different point always with the same error:

malloc: dispose_cmd.c:225: assertion botched
free: underflow detected; mh_nbytes out of range

I got this error earlier with some other libs I installed but after running configure a second time the error disappeared. I've compiled support into my kernel for memory over 1 Gig. However this was AFTER building my LFS system. Could malloc need recompiled???

thanks for any help.
Jason

update: I was running all this in an Eterm... I exited the eterm, restarted the eterm, cd'd to grip's src directory, ran config and the install went off without a hitch... strange...
