Lvm + Raid
 

Hello,
I am very rusty with linux, been a while since I've messed with it.
I working on building a file server.

I am going to have 2 SCSI HDs on RAID 1.
I would like to use LVM to manage the partitions on that array, just wondering if the two conflict. I know very little about LVM and RAID arrays. I'm just going to be keeping the main partitions on SCSI and have my mass storage on SATA and PATA.

I am definatly going to use LVM to combine all IDE HDs into one logical volume.
Not sure what my partition size needs will be for the system, so I'd like to use LVM so I can grow and shrink /home, /var, etc as needed.

I have a Debian box with a 3ware IDE raid card with 5 drives in a raid 5 array.
My system drive is a single IDE PATA drive on the built in contorler.
The RAID is for mass storage and I manage the partitions on it with LVM without a problem.

One more question on setting up the logical volumes.

How do I initally set them up? Working with a fresh install.
Do I make a /boot and a / partition to get the system running.
Then create a logical volume for /home, /var, etc and edit fstab?

I imagine that's a little distro dependent.
I've only set it up with debian but the install process provided the means to configure LVM during the disk partintioning.

FC5 and 6 also provide the means to setup LVM during install, I believe.
