Lucent Winmodem on Manrake 9?

Hello guys, I am a newbie to linux and am having a problem connecting to the internet via my Lucent winmodem :( I know this topic has been beat to death and I have searched online and this forum, but noting is really describing my situation, I have downloaded the drivers from http://www.sfu.ca/~cth/ltmodem/dists/mandrake/8.26a9/ and yet nothing is happening , I am running Manrake 9 and those are the most up-to-date binary packages available (8.2). Can someone help me?

I also forgot to add that when I set the device to /dev/tty0, it recognizes "something", but when I set out to dial, it says initiallizing modem and will not go any further.

Not all Lucent winmodems are supported, I have a Fuji laptop with an unsupported Lucent modem, so I use a PCMCIA modem instead. Check www.linmodems.org against your modem.
Regards
Sid.
