LSI Logic MegaRAID SAS 8204ELP in CentOS 5

Hello everyone,

Well once again I revert to the wisdom of this forum in the hopes that my sanity can be saved! :P

I am currently attempting to get a LSI Logic MegaRAID SAS 8204ELP detected and working in a CentOS 5.3 installation.

I have been trying for the past week and have yet to manage this.

In LSI's web site http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/prod...le=EN&remote=1 driver's are provided for Red Hat 5 which is equivalente to CentOS 5.

I therefore downloaded these and dd'ed the img files on to a floppy. I then proceeded to reboot a CentOS cd and loading linux with the "linux dd" boot option as to load driver's available on floppy.

This however does not make my drive's that are hooked up to the controller avaiable, nor does it make any array that I might have configured via the BIOS set-up menu.

I am already discussing this issue in https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb...topic_id=22623 if anyone needs more info.

What I am basically asking is if anyone has ever configured such a controller on CentOS 5 and if so how did you manage?

afaik rhel5 should detect the LSI card out of the box. after that, you might have to enable the module

modprobe -l |grep -i lsi might provide a clue as to which module to enable

Firstly thanks for your reply dyasny.

I have however solved the problem!

Basically I was trying to install CentOS 5.3 / RHEL 5.3 when there are modules only for 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2.

My confusion was with LSI's site that stated "RedHat 5.x - This driver supports Red Hat 5.0 GA, U1, and U2 for both x86 and x64." only.

Aparently U1 and U2 mean, 5.1 and 5.2.

Oh well now everything seem to be working and my sanity is in check!
