Low fps on my radeon 9600??

Hi All!
Thanks to alot of posts on this formum i finally managed to get my radeon 9600
working under slackware 9.1 kernel 2.6.0-test9.....
Output from fglrxinfo look like

display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Radeon 9600 Pentium 4 (SSE2)
OpenGL version string: 1.3 (X4.3.0-3.2.8)

and that means that 3d is hardware accelerated with ATI gl libs...
lsmod gives agpgart and fglrx modules loaded....so far so good and believe me i was relieved when i found this )
So, when i run fgl_glxgears i get approx 180 fps. glx_gears gives approx. 1600 fps...
my question is...is this good?
Something to tweak or shall i just wait until ATI releases om new drivers...i have yet to test it on enemy territory

thank you
