Unhappy Lost alias line in modules.conf

Okay, for starters, let me identify myself as one of those users who know enough to be very dangerous.

I was trying to install a Linksys 802.11g card.
Since my RH8 box didn't have the drivers, etc, I tried to do it manually.

In the process, I *SOMEHOW* (cough-fatfingered-cough) managed to delete the alias line from my modules.conf file that refers to my sound card. I've got a Dell Latitude laptop.

I Know during the install, the card is picked up beautifully, and believe it goes to /dev/audio, but I'm not sure on that.

the RH hardware broweser sees the card, but its not got any device hooked to it.

I'm hoping that someone else might have a latitude laptop, and has been through this before, that or someone's got a link to a good site of re-figruing out the modules.conf. I've already visited RH and TLDP's web sites, but cant find anythign that seems to apply

Thanks in advance for the help

Well, providing the Laptop Model or the type of soundcard would be helpful as there are so many different types of Dell Laptops and soundcards out there, it could be many of the different modules to load your sound card..

DOH!!!

Okay, that'd be the id10t in me.....

Latitude HT500
I did some more digging, and I know it uses the maestro module because if I modprobe it, it comes up and works.

According to RH's Sound Card config util, it's an ES1978 Maestro 2E.

Thanks for your help with this.
btw, what exactly does this affero button do?

Then you should just be able to add that to your modules file like this:

/sbin/moprobe [module-name-here]

eh?
hold on...
{modules.conf}
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
alias usb-controller usb-uhci
alias eth0 3c59x
{/modules.conf}

There was a line in there aliasing the sound card. you're saying though, that in this file, I can add /sbin/modprobe maestro?

I get the feeling I'm *way* off base in my understanding here
