Logitech QuickCam E 3500 (happy/unhappy)

Hello,

I'm looking for a webcam for my stationary computer. I was trying to pick something popular, I think that Logitech QuickCam series should be that way.

I did not buy it yet, so my question is not about my issues with that hardware, but rather what is your opinion, suggestion regarding installing it on Linux.

I'm working on Slackware 12.

If You had problems with that hardware on your linux, leave some info here too. Any links, howtos, faq would be apprciated too.

If You had another Logitech Camera which is working fine and it is actually not so different, please leave a note too.

Thank you very much for your help.

Here is the official Logitech Quick Cam web page.

From my research unsuccessfully trying to get my notebook's built in web cam to work it seems that all USB web cams depend on the uvc video driver in Linux.

This page is referenced in the above page.

Here is another web page for web cams based on a different chip.

Then, of course, Source Forge is a good place to see what open source projects are available. You will find that once you have a driver you will need to find an application to view your web cam. This can help in that department.

That list should give you some helpful reading material. Hopefully you will be able to make a good decision after reading those web pages.
