Logitech QuickCam 4000 Pro

Hi,

I'm gradually getting everything running on my newly installed Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 desktop and, having installed aMSN Messenger, I'd like to get my webcam running with it.

Does anybody here know if the Logitech QuickCam 4000 Pro is supported under Ubuntu? If so, could you let me know where I might get the necessary drivers / software for it?

Many thanks in advance!

Try using the PWC (philips webcam driver) driver. You can jsut search it in the net, I used it with my Logitech Webcam Pro 3000 and it worked.

try this lik for starters: http://www.saillard.org/linux/pwc/

Thanks for the info - please excuse my silly questions (I'm a linux )

I found pwc using the Synaptic package manager and installed it from there. I can see the file here:

/lib/modules/2.6.15-23-386/kernel/drivers/usb/media/pwc/pwc.ko

Which I guess means it's installed, but how do I use it? I've so far been unable to get aMSN to work properly and don't know how to test if the webcam is working with this driver - is there a program I can install to test it?

Many thanks!

Well here I am replying to my own post because I found a piece of software which shows that my webcam is working - at least the video part is.

The software is called VLC - I expect you all know it.

@ ghatamos - did you have any problems getting the internal microphone working in your quickcam?

Any pointers towards this would be very welcome

Thanks

Webcam IM Services

Is there a source on the web to identify VoIP services for two computer users that want to use webcams, voice, and keyboard to communicate?

I would prefer to not use Yahoo, MSN, or AOL?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Dennis
