Logitech M305 Wireless mouse problem
I am running Ubuntu 10.0.4.1
My external wireless mouse, Logitech M305, does work in Ubuntu, except for its middle button and tilt wheel. I have looked all over the web for a fix, and they were all older versions of Ubuntu. When looking up lsusb, I see: Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:c52f Logitech, Inc. So it is recognized, as it works, but I think it needs a fix or manager. |
"older versions of ubuntu" doesn't matter when it comes to fixing up mouse buttons.
So try the links you already have, or this one http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-lucid-814150/ |
Thanks. I wasn't sure how to get into Xorg. Guess I didn't look around enough. :study:
|
Good.
If the link I posted doesn't solve your problem (and I admit it's about another mouse problem, but there should be enough stuff that is relevant to your problem) then come back here, and post a follow-up (or even your solution :) ) |
OK. Been at this for an hour now. Had to be somewhere prior. I followed your guide how to save xorg.conf in etc/X11/
BUT, I am unsure how to edit it. I assume you need to be in root to do so. How is it done? I have mostly only been at the front user end. I tried looking here, but I can't figure it out. |
Yes, you need to be root:
In a terminal Code:
sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf nano has a little menu at the bottom of the screen. It is very simple: CTRL-o to "write Out" Press RETURN to confirm the filename Then CTRL-x to eXit If you prefer the full GUI stuff (but please learn nano [ or vi ;) ], as you'll need a terminal-only text editor if your GUI is broken for some simple reason) then try: Code:
gksu gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf |
Thanks, man. I've used text-only command prompt (windows) apps before. So I'm not blind.
I tried everything in that thread. ButtonMapping never changed anything. I did restart X every time. Am I doing something wrong, or is my mouse just not configured correctly? |
If you want more help, you'll have to provide more information than "I tried everything".
How are your buttons currently seen ( http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ml#post4015764 )? What is the relevant part of your xorg.conf (the part that refers to the mouse) ? |
Sorry about that. I wrote this up quick before I had to leave.
Code:
Button Name xev Number Current Action Desired action Needs Fixing? Code:
Section "InputDevice" |
Thanks.
The table you posted makes no reference to the tilt wheel. "Desired Action" refers to just exactly what you want the tilt wheel to do. In your first post you say the tilt wheel isn't working, but what do you want it to do? [I have a mouse with "tilt", but I never needed that functionality]. From what you have posted, the middle button should be working, but, again, what do you expect this button to do? |
The middle, forward, and back are all on the tilt wheel.
As in Windows. The middle button as auto-scroll. Left and right tilt as back and forward. I thought this would be obvious.. middle click = auto scroll left tilt = back right tilt = forward |

The scroll wheel scrolls up and down in documents or firefox. It also adjusts volume in an intuitive up/down way and zooms in certain applications like www.openstreetmap.org Quote:

I have no idea what "auto scroll" is. Perhaps you could post what the xev results are for all your mouse buttons, ( including tilt-L and -R ) and exactly what you would like the buttons to be recognised as / do. Then maybe, we can make some progress. |
Excuse me. I am just getting a little frustrated, that's all.
On my mouse, there is a left and right click, obvious. It has a scroll wheel that tilts both ways and when pressed, is another button. Auto scroll is where you can scroll down the page without scrolling or pressing the bar on the right side of the window. What I want it to do: left right click - default left tilt - back (as in a browser or window, back to the previous page, same as forward) right tilt - forward middle button - a scrolling method as auto scroll or similar I gave you my xev readings above. All the 5 buttons. |

No output from xev when you do Tilt-L or Tilt-R then? Please confirm that this is indeed the case, or not. |
I didn't mean scroll left, I mean tilt to right and left.
Let me give you a better picture. This is on my Windows 7 computer, same mouse. This is Setpoint, a control panel for my mouse. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...ompy/mouse.png You see what I'm getting at? |
