Logitech Laser/Wireless Mouse stops working after a while

Using Ubuntu Linux 6.10 Edgy Eft, and whatever kernel comes w that (dont know how to find out) on a Toshiba Sattelite L30 laptop

My new mouse seems to work with Windows (dual-boot) and with Ubuntu for a short amount of time. however after roughly 5 minutes after each boot it stops working.

The mouse is a Logitech V400 in yellow, the M/N is M-RBL117, and it seems to behave like a standard USB mouse because on both OSs it seems to work without the installation of any drivers.

Restarting the X server doesnt work.

I know I havent given much info, but I tried /sbin/lsusb and it said the directory didnt exist. Am I supposed to type it into terminal?

By the way, I am a Linux newbie so any instructions will have to be step-by-step startingat the GNOME desktop.

Thanks in advance!

try pressing the connect buttons on the base and mouse if this works you probably need new batteries.

amphibioustoaster 12-25-2006 02:23 AM

batteries fine

No, the batteries are fine on the mouse, it works on Windows, as for the connect button I tried that. I un-installed Edgy and replaced it with Dapper, and it seems to work fine. Im still not sure what the cause is, but I'm perfectly happy with Dapper. Thanks for your reply anyway.

I have the same problem with my logitech G5. I am running sabayon and it didn't happen with an older version. I have to unplug the mouse and replug it in and see no new entries popup in /var/log/messages when it stops running, its almost like clockwork after 5 minutes, and its really annoying!

i have the same problems. the only difference is that i have a genius ergo 525 on a Ubuntu 7.04 sistem

suggestions?

As I mentioned before, the mouse worked for me in Dapper Drake 6.06. Unfortunately, I am now a Windows user (not by choice, but by Adobe) so I don't know what goes on in 7.10. I really wish I could use 7.10, but dual booting is impractical, and... Adobe. (CS3! Yay!)

Same thing in Feisty Fawn

I just installed 7.04 Feisty Fawn (these edition names are a little like testosteronic Disney with a bit of Liberace thrown in to take off the edge) on my Toshiba Satellite M45-S165. I am so #^@"ing impressed with Ubuntu that I may adopt it as my new religion. EVERYTHING works. The wireless worked right off the bat, even from the live CD (thanks, Mandriva, for no support in that department.) It even found my networked laser printer through two routers over the wireless with exactly the right drivers. It got the widescreen 1280x800 display resolution right. Ubuntu is the Windows killer. I will tattoo that on my forehead, if need be. And it includes Abiword, and has every freaking other application you could want, including the free player version of VMWare. And the color scheme is just, well, nice. Ubuntu needs its own sexy girl mascot like the Macintosh "Try iCandies and more" girl so I can really have kinky and inappropriate dreams. Ubuntu really needs a poster that will catch everyone's attention, like a woodcut-style Zulu warrior bristing with headdress and spears, and the title "Mr. Gates, your replacement has arrived." The penguin is cute and all, and 'guin-zilla over Redmond may be a nerd daydream, but it just don't cut it for sheer aggressive messaging. We need to scare the rich white dude, not annoy him.

The only two problems were that the administrative password was not immediately apparent. I even went through the root password reset (ESC in GRUB) because the install from the live CD doesn't go through having you set one (and why not?) Eventually the admin login for installing software responded to my user password (it didn't, at first) so that problem is solved.

The second is that my Logitech V200 wireless USB mouse just quits at a random moment in the session. The system log shows that the device detached but does not explain why. I have watched carefully and I think it has something to do with Flash running in Firefox. It doesn't seem to happen all the time, and this session has been well over an hour and the mouse is still responding. I'm going to run some flash pages like Atomfilms to see if it quits. I think something is interrupting the data stream from the USB bus just enough to crash the mouse connection but I don't have software to display the stream in real time. This problem is the reason I posted in this thread, but I really needed to express the rest. Excuse my excess verbiage, but I love Ubuntu. If she were a Nubian princess I would woo her with all my heart.

Now, if only ATI would get off their propietary 4$$es and release the codes for Theater 550 Pro, I could watch TV in Ubuntu on my workstation.

RE: Adobe

Regarding the access to Adobe documents in Linux, have you considered Ghostview and Ghostscript? I find them to work quite well.

I can read PDFs alright in Linux. It's just I need things like Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, and InDesign CS3 for school and my website. (No, i do NOT use Design view in Dw. Never.) I would love to dual boot, but I have 1 GB left on my HD. Ubuntu takes up roughly 1 GB, where do I put my files? I will hopefully get a shiny new laptop this Xmas (with a few minor cosmetic scratches - eBay of course) and if that has more than 40GB I will probably dualboot so that I have somewhere to escape to when I am tired of this M$ craziness (one of my school computers you have to dismiss 8 popups (4 from the sound card driver, 2 from Windows Update and 2 from Norman Antivirus) when it starts up) but I am 13 - no, wait, 14 - so I'm on a budget here. AU$10 a week pocket money (have to be 15yo to work), that is.

Impressed with ubuntu

Hello there Gridsleep!,

Well I just gave life to my old Centrino which had refused to run XP with all what I had, ubuntu 7.04 runs like a Ferrari on a Italian autostrade, I am so impressed.

I am just looking for keyboard comparabilities. I think there should be some industry standard that stated equipment manufacturers release popular OS drivers and not only limit the users to Microsoft. This would give Microsoft good run for its money.

cheers
