I have recently bought a PC with ASUS (M2N68 AM OLUS) MOTHERBOARD. i m not able to load linux red hat 4.1. i suppose asus motherboard does not support linux. when you start loading linux, it asks for device driver for SATA HDD. neither it is listed in the list provided nor it is taken from motherboard CD.
Red hat 4.1 sounds ancient. Does it have a 2.6 kernel? You won't get sata drivers without a 2.6 kernel. Asus lives with linux all right. Likewise, if it's a 64 bit box, give it a 64 bit system.
I might assume the OP is referring to RHEL 4.1 which I believe uses a default 2.6.9 kernel. It is also most likely that this kernel does not support the SATA controller on your motherboard. It might work if you reconfigure the controller in the BIOS to compatibility (or legacy) mode. Also assuming that you purchased support you could always ask Redhat....
Thanks for the replies. There was no problem with the motherboard but red hat 4.1(RHEL4) does not support SATA drivers. I loaded ubuntu 9.04 successfully. I suppose all latest LINUX versions support SATA drivers.
