lmde observes only one cpu

installed debian mint couplle days ago on thinkpad t60 with duo core configuration.
only one cpu is recognized by system. Is this a bug? install went smooth and actually runs fine, just a little warmer than usual and something like gimp is slugggish. the problem was fixed by simply installing 686-pae kernel image, then rebooting the computer. Debian default is 486 image and only recognizes single cpu configurations. Not sure if I'm saying that rite but problem solved. Cool thing is , to me anyway, is that on boot I have option to boot either kernel. So if I'm out on battery power using less resources with single core will give longer battery life.

Please post the output of
Code:

cat /proc/cpuinfo

The reason it says one CPU is probably because it IS one CPU. A Core Duo is one CPU with two cores, not two CPUs. (I have the same computer and the output of "cat /proc/cpuinfo" says I have one CPU as well, with two cores.) I'd make sure you have the right kernel installed as well, some of the 32-bit versions don't use a PAE kernel for compatibility reasons.
