Lirc on Fedora core 3

Hi everyone!

I used to run a debian distribution but has recently changed to fedora core 3.

Now I am trying to install lirc by using atrmp:s package.

I used yum and wrote

yum install lirc

and it installed the package.
However when I try to run mode2 for instance
I get mode 2 :error opening /dev/lirc
mode 2 : no such file or directory

Ok so where do I go from here, do I have to compile my own kernel......?
I was hopping that I wouldn´t have to do that.....

Best regards!

Mala

I am in the middle of trying to get lirc and my cheapo PB remote to work on Slack10.1.

When I run mode2 I get:

mode2: error opening /dev/lirc
mode2: No such device

Is this possibly the same error?

Anyone have an idea?
