Linux supported TV cards?

Im thinking of getting this TV card: http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/mod...53&modulecode=

Im getting it to go in a machine which will be running Red Hat 8.0, and MythTV.

Can any one tell me if it will be supported?

I have searched arounf but cant really find an answer.

Best thing to do is figure out what chipset it uses, and then check to make sure it's supported by video4linux.

Most video cards (wintv and others) are based on bt848 and bt878 chipsets.

I can't tell ya more, cuz I haven't even gotten MY wintv card to work yet! (close, it just wont change channels).

zapp - what applications have you tried with your tv card?

and as zapp already pointed out the bt8x8 series is well-supported in the kernel. You should dig a little deeper on the card you're looking at as it claims mpeg2 enconding but doesn't specify whether it's using onboard hardware encoding or software.

I am currently using xawtv.

I had to stop working on it for now, but my next step is to look at
http://www.tv-cards.com/linux.php and find a better app. xawtv keeps losing my settings, and has a rather un-inutitive interface for me.

After that, hopefully I'll get around to installing freevo or mythtv and getting some PVR sorta action going on!

Would Linux support a Hauppauge USB WinTV card?

I assume it would use the same chipset as the PCI ones, but Im not sure whether Linux would support it becasue of the USB.
