I have the same sound card, check
1- does alsaconfig detect anything called
intel8x0?

2- Which kernel are you using?

3- In Slackwar 10.0 in CD2 in /testing you will find packages a for the 2.6.7 kernel, along with corresponding alsa packages, have you tried those out?

4- are you a complete newbie? Can you compile your kernel with alsa intel8x0 driver buitl in?
