linux reported stepping VS intel stepping
ok, forgive me if this has already been answered, but i ran a few searches and came up with nothing usable....
i currently have a p4 xeon system, with a dual-capable motherboard, but only one cpu installed. i would like to upgrade to dual, but i know the stepping has to match. when i use cpuid or cat /proc/cpuinfo, i see that my stepping is reported as "9" but intel lists their stepping like "M0" "D1" or "C1" how do I know what processor to order with the names not matching? also, i can't seem to find anywhere without rebooting whether i am on a 400 or 533 bus... here is my cpuid output: Code:
processor : 0 thanks! |
Pull out the other CPU and check it on there.

i was hoping not to hear that. =)
pulling a production system offline is never fun, then i will only have to do it again after i receive a new processor... plus if i pull the heatsink off of the one in there, i'll have to clean the die to read it, then remount again with proper thermal pasting and such... ugh. |
