Linux on a toshiba 2105cds

In lieu of rent my landlady asked me to install linux on her husbands old laptop (64MB RAM, 4GB HD) - "So I can watch movies," she said. They're poor, me too, so no new tech will be involved.

I'm hoping to install puppy. My question is, the machine does not respond to F2 or F12 keys when I boot it up - it goes straight to the Toshiba splash screen, then Windoze 98.

How can I override this so I can boot from the CD?

Comments welcome

cheers

R

Hold down the F12 key before turning on the power, and release it when the Toshiba logo appears. Then select the CD-ROM using the left-right arrows and press enter.

Alternatively, hold down the C key while the computer is booting.

There is a fair chance this machine will be too short on memory to adequately play video. Speedwise it may manage, as long as you don't push the resolution too high, but it might be tricky. But by all means give it a try; my 1.3GHz PIII Toshiba can handle standard def video as long as the bit rates are not too high.

You can obtain a user manual from the Toshiba Europe website, under 'Satellite Pro' in the archive section (Toshiba have good online support for obsolete notebooks).
