Hey all, I have a Maxtor MaxAttach NAS 3000 (80gb) box i want to put on my network. Since my network is Linux based the software that came with the device is useless (it only installs on windows based systems). What flavor of Linux can i use to set this bad boy up as a file server. I know it can be done because i've read elsewhere where Linux users have done it but they don't include any how to's. Also, is it possible to swap the HD's currently in it for greater capacity drives. Thx much.
The MaxAttach is powered by the FreeBSD operating system, so as well as the SMB drive sharing facility, you can also FTP in to the server, and if things get desperate you can telnet in and run the usual array of BSD / Unix variant commands.
Also it seems to be fully configurable via web browser, I think you should read the documentation.
