Hello all,

I recently added a Western Digital Cavier 200GB Hard Drive to my Debian 3.0 distribution. With this drive I partitioned it with fdisk and then ran mkfs.ext3 to create the file system. I end up with 127GB in total size when I do a df -h. I'm using a Promise Ultra 100TX2 PCI IDE controller and it detects around 186GB with it's BIOS, which sounds right. So I'm curious why Linux can't detect the full size of the hard drive. I'm wondering if this could be a kernel issue and perhaps I should upgrade to the 2.6 kernel. What would you guys recommend and suggest here?

Debian 3.0 w/2.4.18-bf2.4 kernel
Pentium II 450
384MB pc133 RAM
200GB WD Caviar

actually the bios not detecting the whole drive size is where you want to start.

the HDD is attached to the Promise Ultra-TX2 PCI card, and detects the drive as 186GB. Which is what I believe it's supposed to be detected at. Debian just continually detects the drive at 137GB. What do I do?
